Continuity Notes:
This story goes into a great deal of the history of the Green Goblins. The facts:
The original Green Goblin, Norman Osborn, discovered Spider-Man's double identity in Amazing Spider-Man #39-40.
This eventually led to the Goblin killing Peter's girlfriend Gwen Stacy in Amazing Spider-Man #121 and ended in his apparent demise in the following issue.
Norman survived, however, unknown to everyone, as explained in Spider-Man: The Osborn Journal #1, he will resurface in Amazing Spider-Man #412.
Meanwhile, Harry discovered his father's identity, and that Peter is Spider-Man during the course of Amazing Spider-Man #123-134. This led to Harry become the new Goblin in Amazing Spider-Man #135-136.
The true identity of this Goblin, and his hostage, is revealed in Amazing Spider-Man #180.
