Thor is a superhero from Marvel Comics, created by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, and Jack Kirby. He made his first appearance in Journey into Mystery #83 in August 1962. Thor is the Asgardian prince of thunder, son of Odin and Jord, and is one of the most powerful beings in the Nine Realms. Born on Asgard, Thor was raised by his father Odin and his mother Frigga, queen of Asgard. Thor was trained from a young age in the arts of war and was groomed to be the future king of Asgard. However, Thor often clashed with his father due to his impulsive and reckless nature. Despite this, Thor was a skilled warrior and was highly respected by the Asgardian people. One day, Thor was confronted by his older adoptive brother, Loki, who revealed that he was actually the son of Laufey, king of the Frost Giants. Loki, resentful of Thor's position as Odin's favored son, tricked Thor into attacking the Frost Giants, leading to a war between Asgard and Jotunheim. Thor's actions angered Odin, who stripped him of his powers and banished him to Earth. On Earth, Thor was found by Jane Foster, a young scientist, and her mentor, Dr. Erik Selvig. Thor, now in the form of a disabled human named Donald Blake, struggled to adapt to life on Earth and often clashed with Foster and Selvig. However, he eventually learned humility and compassion, and with the help of Foster and Selvig, he was able to regain his powers and return to Asgard. As Thor, he fought alongside the Avengers, a team of superheroes, against various threats to Earth, including the Chitauri, an alien race led by Thanos, and the Red Skull, a former Nazi officer who sought to use the Tesseract, a powerful energy source, to conquer the world. Thor also faced challenges within Asgard, including a civil war sparked by Loki, who had taken the throne after Odin's death, and the return of his long-thought-dead sister, Hela, the Asgardian goddess of death. Throughout his journey, Thor developed strong relationships with his allies, including Foster, Selvig, the Avengers, and his Asgardian comrades. He also reconciled with his father and learned to balance his responsibilities as a warrior and a king. Thor's powers come from his enchanted hammer, Mjolnir, which grants him the ability to control thunder and weather. Mjolnir is only capable of being wielded by those deemed worthy by the hammer itself, and Thor has proven himself to be one of the few worthy enough to wield it. In addition to his powers, Thor is also an accomplished hand-to-hand combatant and is skilled in the use of various Asgardian weapons. Thor has become a fan-favorite character and has appeared in numerous Marvel Comics, as well as in various adaptations, including the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where he is portrayed by actor Chris Hemsworth. In the MCU, Thor has appeared in several films, including the Thor trilogy, The Avengers, and Avengers: Endgame, as well as in various television shows and video games.
